Care of Cards and Self

It is your choice whether to let anyone but yourself touch your cards. I suggest that while you are getting acquainted with them, only you should handle them. And, do handle them a lot. Shuffle them even if you have not asked a question. Get used to the size and feel of the. Find the best way for you to cut and shuffle the cards. Keep them with you as much as possible. Carry them with you in your purse, in your car, in your briefcase and even while you sleep. At first, I discourage you from having the entire deck under your pillow or mattress. On a nightstand, or somewhere in the room is fine. One card at a time under the pillow or mattress is enough while you are doing psychic development or learning from that individual card.

When you are doing a reading for a querant who is present, you may want them to cut the cards after you have shuffled the cards and are ready to lay them out. Or, you can have them shuffle the cards more, then cut. It is up to you which technique you use to involve the querant in the reading.

“Hearing” the Cards
Before you read any books, practice laying them out. Practice with a seven card, known as a Yes/No or party reading. Or, do a thirteen card layout. This is known as an Astrological layout. This helps you to become accustomed to seeing the cards side by side. The combination of colors and symbols can be an overwhelming sight! Don’t try to interpret each card at first. Just enjoy the sight of the cards. Slowly move your eyes from one card to another. “Listen” to what you “hear” from the Universe. Just listen.
You’ll be surprised at how accurate you may be as far as symbolic meanings are concerned

Learning to trust yourself and what you hear is one of the hardest things to master. But listening to what you hear is absolutely essential to giving a reading. I have known readers that say they read the face value only and that they use no psychic input. That may work for them, but please do not limit your abilities. I encourage you to develop your own psychic abilities.

Storing Your Cards
When not using your cards, return them to their home. It is important to protect your cards by enclosing them in material that is of natural fiber, such as silk, leather, or product of an animal. I have also used glass containers. Store them in a dry, safe place that receives adequate ventilation. In other words, treat your cards as a very special friend that holds your heart, as you would an heirloom handed down in your family.

Caring for Yourself
Some people like to clear their reading environment by using candles, incense or other burning sticks. You might also find crosses or crystals to be helpful to you. These are objects of energy to aid and comfort you. Whatever you do in the space that you use to read the cards, make sure is comfortable and true to your beliefs.

Personally, I like to silently say the Lord’s Prayer and ask for protection that will bring clear and accurate information. If I am in a public setting, I’ll glance at the quenant’s chair and “dust” it with white light and silently wish them on to their higher good. It takes just a few seconds and is well worth the effort.

It will become second nature for you to focus total attention on your cards and querant. This may take more practice for some than others, but in time you will master it.

You may feel “different” when you are focusing that attention. That is your psychic side coming into being. Relax and let it flow. Remember to trust what you see, hear, feel or smell.

Try to rest between readings, even if it is just standing up and stretching. Take a deep breath and clear your head. If you are reading at a psychic fair or for several people in a row, it may not be possible to break between readings. I have found the best thing to do is close my eyes and draw in white light and see myself rested.

Because querants often have a serious attitude towards their readings, so should you. Treat their problems with respect. But, it is important that they feel you enjoy what you are doing. Do not be afraid of the information that flows through you to them. Trust in yourself and that will give them no reason to mistrust the information that you are sharing with them. A positive and caring sense of delivery is essential in your communication. Add diplomacy to that. Diplomacy will go a long way to helping the querant remember what they need to hear.

I encourage you to record sessions. Science tells us that of all we hear, we remember eighty percent of it in the few minutes after hearing it but only twenty percent can be recalled after four minutes. We soon forget even pieces of important information. Some people do not like recorders and will bring someone to take notes. If that is not distracting to you, then go ahead and let the information flow.

Make your querant as comfortable as possible. It is easier for you to relax and get into the session if your client is relaxed as well.

As a final note on caring for yourself, do a prayer of cleaning every now and then. A little ritual is good for the soul. So, whether it is a candlelit bath with crystals reflecting their powerful healing energy, or it is a moonlit walk in your favorite wooded area, spend a few moments by yourself. Breath in clear, healing colors, and let go of the negative energies that you have absorbed in your readings. Both you and your querants will benefit from this practice.

And, just this one final note. You are not there to judge that person. Please share your gift openly and fairly. Let the Universe be the judge.
